Where can we dry wet riding gear?
Berghotel Presslauer has a drying cabinet for riding gear, free of charge for hotel guests, so riders can dry wet riding gear overnight. After a rainy ride over the passes, jackets, trousers and gloves hang there until the next morning. The motorbikes stand in the hotel’s garage, and the dirt of the day can be rinsed off at the wash area for motorbikes. Tools for small jobs on the motorbike are also available free of charge.

From Berghotel Presslauer, day rides lead through Carinthia and into Italy, Slovenia, East Tyrol and South Tyrol. The nearest pass road starts in Tröpolach, 7 km from the hotel: according to quaeldich.de, the Nassfeld Pass road (B90) climbs 929 m over 11.2 km to the top at 1,530 m and continues into Italy, where the pass is called Passo di Pramollo. Other portals give slightly different figures for the climb.
Riders who want to base themselves in southern Carinthia for several days of day rides into Italy and Slovenia stay in one place and plan each day with the hosts, who provide maps and route suggestions.
Is Berghotel Presslauer part of Motorradland Kärnten?
Yes. Berghotel Presslauer is a member establishment of the Motorradland Kärnten association. According to visitcarinthia.at, guests of member establishments ride along with Harry’s Bike Tours for free from the beginning of April to the beginning of October: three guided rides a week, 150 to 300 km long, starting at 9.30 am. On Wednesdays the ride sets off in the region of Nassfeld-Pressegger See, Lesachtal and Weissensee, according to visitcarinthia.at; you sign up at harrys-biketours.at.
Riders download the Motorradland Kärnten routes as GPX files from the official Carinthia route portal, available in English and German: on each route page the “GPX” button leads to the download. That is how guests of Berghotel Presslauer load the routes straight onto their GPS device. Routes through the Gail Valley include the 6-Passes-Route (236 km) and Triglav National Park into Slovenia (209.6 km). Are the Plöckenpass and the Nassfeld Pass open?
Usually yes, but not always: according to the Austrian automobile club ÖAMTC, there have been repeated roadworks on the Plöckenpass road (B110) between Kötschach-Mauthen and Paluzza since 2026, and road blocks of several days are possible. The way into Friuli is then the Nassfeld Pass road (B90), which according to the ÖAMTC climbs to 1,530 m with gradients of up to 14%. What does a room with half board cost in September?
In autumn 2027, from 1 September to 3 October 2027, a room with shower and WC at Berghotel Presslauer costs from €66 per person per night with breakfast and from €82 with half board, or from €71 and €87 with a balcony. If a rider uses a double room alone, the price list adds a single-use supplement of €18 per night. For stays of fewer than two nights there is a supplement of €5 per person per night. Cancellation is free up to 30 days before arrival.
For groups there are single rooms without a balcony and double rooms with or without a balcony. Group rates and motorbike packages are not published; please ask when you enquire with the number of riders.
Can we get dinner after a long ride?
Yes. Half-board guests at Berghotel Presslauer get a three-course dinner in the evening, with beef and speck from the family’s own production and vegetables and herbs from the hotel’s garden. According to the hotel, hot food is served from 12:00 to 13:30 and from 18:00 to 20:00, and on Wednesdays the restaurant is closed until 16:00. Whether a later dinner is possible for a group arriving late, please ask when you book.
