How do you cross the Nassfeld Pass into Friuli, and is it open?
The Nassfeld Pass (B90, Passo di Pramollo in Italian) links the Gail Valley at Tröpolach with Pontebba in the Canal Valley in Friuli. According to ÖAMTC, the top of the pass is at 1,530 m, gradients reach up to 14 %, and the northern ramp is much better developed than the winding southern ramp. According to ÖAMTC, the pass road is usually open; whether a closure applies on the day of your ride is shown by the ÖAMTC traffic information.
If you ride the Nassfeld Pass by motorbike, you start in Tröpolach at the Millennium-Express valley station, 7 km from Berghotel Presslauer. According to kaernten.at, the road includes a tunnel of about 200 m with a tight hairpin and a steep gradient.

What can you do if the Plöcken Pass is closed?
Most of the time the Plöcken Pass (B110) between Kötschach-Mauthen and Paluzza is open, but not always: according to ÖAMTC, roadworks have been taking place there again and again since 2026, and closures lasting several days are possible. The Nassfeld Pass then leads into Friuli instead. Before every ride from Berghotel Presslauer, check the ÖAMTC traffic information.
